Paul Leonard Newman (1925-2008) was an American actor, film director, entrepreneur, professional race car driver and team owner, environmentalist, activist and philanthropist. He won numerous awards, including an Academy Award for his performance in the 1986 film "The Color of Money", a BAFTA Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Cannes Film Festival Award, an Emmy Award, and many other honorary awards. Newman's other films include "The Hustler" (1961), "Cool Hand Luke" (1967), "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969), "The Sting" (1973), and "The Verdict" (1982).
Despite being colorblind, he won several national championships as a driver in Sports Car Club of America road racing, and his race teams won several championships in open wheel IndyCar racing. Newman was married to actress Joanne Woodward from 1958 until his death. Passed away on September the 26th.

Είχε λάβει πολυάριθμα βραβεία για το έργο του, ανάμεσα στα οποία ένα Όσκαρ Α' Ανδρικού Ρόλου (επίσης 2 τιμητικά και 9 υποψηφιότητες), 6 Χρυσές Σφαίρες, ένα Βραβείο SAG, ένα BAFTA και ένα Έμμυ. Είχε επίσης βραβευτεί για την ερμηνεία του στην ταινία «Πόθοι στην κάψα του καλοκαιριού» (1958) στο Φεστιβάλ των Καννών, ενώ έχει λάβει τον Ασημένιο Λέοντα στο Φεστιβάλ του Βερολίνου για την ταινία «Δεν είμαι κορόιδο κανενός» (1994).
Επίσης, για μια εικοσαετία υπήρξε οδηγός αγωνιστικών αυτοκινήτων, ενώ μέχρι και τις τελευταίες μέρες της ζωής του προσέφερε πλούσιο φιλανθρωπικό έργο. Απεβίωσε στις 26 Σεπτεμβρίου.
